What’s on in Paris in november


As Paris draws closer to drifting into the off-season with the approach of winter, do not despair. Here are a whole host of fun and fascinating food, music, attractions, and sporting events that will take place this November and on into December and the holiday season.

FOOD | Salon Du Chocolat

28 October-1 November

This event in Paris is proudly one of the world’s largest shows dedicated to chocolate and invites sugar lovers to sample an innovative selection. There are tasting classes and 500 top chocolatiers from all corners of the globe sprawled across more than 250 stalls. There are also performances and parades, demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and a decent bookshop for finding recipes. 1 November marks the last day of this wonderful event until next year.

MUSIC | Pitchfork Music Festival Paris

2-4 November 2017

Pitchfork Music Festival Paris 2017 is gearing up to take place from 2-4 November at La Grande Halle de La Villette. This will be its seventh edition. The National, Sigrid, Run the Jewels, Ride, Talaboman, BADBADNOTGOOD, the Blaze, and Polo & Pan will all take the stage for epic all-night musical celebrations. As well as playing, The National is also curating one day of the festival.

RIDES | The Big Wheel at Place de la Concorde

2 November 2017

November marks the return of the traditional Big Wheel on Place de la Concorde. With a height of 70 metres (76.6 yards), this is the world’s largest mobile Ferris wheel and it gives an incredible view over the Tuileries Gardens, the Louvre, and the Christmas lights on the Champs-Elysées from its 48 pods. The attraction has been part of the Christmas Village on the Champs-Elysées since 2000 and entices 300,000 passengers each year. It’ll stay up until May 2018.

Featuring more than 170 exhibiting galleries, hundreds of photographers, collectors, and art enthusiasts, Paris Photo is the world’s biggest photography fair. Its 21st edition will take place over four days under the glass-domed roof of the Grand Palais. It is not just an art fair—it also encourages dialogue through a host of talks, testimonials, and round-table discussions.

9-13 November 2017

November is the official month of Photography in Paris with 40 events taking place throughout the city. A particular hotspot of  creativity plays out during the Salon de la Photo at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. Brought together in the company of famous brands, schools, and manufacturers, both professional and amateur photo enthusiasts are welcomed. Discover the latest technological innovations in the world of photography, printing, or digital manipulation over five days. There will also be screenings, talks, and hands-on workshops.

PARADE | Armistice Day

11 November 2017 

On Armistice Day each year, France honours the soldiers who fell or were injured during World War I with commemorative services. In Paris, an epic military parade will take place followed by a ceremony held at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe.

LIGHTS |  Champs Elysées Christmas Lights

21 November 2017-6 January 2018 

The Christmas lights on the Champs Elysées get switched on every year at this time, and visitors flock in from all over the world to admire the City of Lights in full illumination while taking dazzling photographs. Its magical colours mark the start of the festive season with luminous arches glowing in brightly multi-coloured bulbs, flames, and light show projections. The city will sparkle from November to the beginning of January, and it can also be found on Avenue Montaigne, in Place Vendôme, the Montmartre District, and Bercy Village.

HORSE | Salon du Cheval de Paris

25 November 2017-03 December 2017 

The Salon du Cheval is a must-see attraction for equestrian fans that, in recent years, has been taking place at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre in Paris. With 2,500 horses thundering around and some 450 exhibitors on tap offering advice and information on anything from ensuring the general well-being of horses to elucidating on breeds and behaviour, most are sure to learn something new. Highlights include the Paris Indoor Horse Competition featuring show jumping, dressage, eventing, harness, and vaulting as well as horse-drawn carriage parades, the Longines Masters de Paris International Horse Jumping, and the World Arabian Horse Championship.

FESTIVE | Windows displays at Galeries Lafayette

From November 2017 

Galeries Lafayette Haussmann is an upmarket French department store in Paris’s 9th Arrondissement, and it has stood proudly as a Paris icon of upmarket style since its creation in 1894. It’s a must-visit venue in the capital—even more so during the festive season when animated Christmas window displays, illuminations, and a giant tree under the dome light up the 70,000-square-metre (83719.3-square-yard) retail space to make the perfect photo opp. It opens every day from  9:30 am to 8:30 pm and every Sunday from 11 am to 7 pm.

WINE | Salon des Vins

24-28 November 2017 

With a host of the best local sellers on tap to personally meet and greet all wine-lovers, Le Salon des Vins in Paris promises to tickle taste buds from 24-28 November. They’ll be sharing their years of wisdom to help others discover new wines and the history behind them at la Porte de Versailles. The event is also taking place in Reims from 11-14 November Lille from 18-21 November as well.
